A Phantom Quartz Crystal shows the clear delineation of another completed crystal inside the major crystal. Several complete crystals may appear inside one another. In geological terms, the first quartz crystal stopped growing for a time. When the Si02 feed was reintroduced, instead of growing a new crystal, which is most common, it grew over top of the original. The ghostly outline of the crystal is due to cave dust being trapped on top of the original crystal.
